Aurangabad: The state government has sought a detailed project report from an IITian from Aurangabad, who has proposed setting up a desalination plant near Mumbai to overcome the perennial water scarcity in Marathwada. Ajay M Chole, an IITian and assistant professor at an engineering college, has suggested setting up of a desalination plant at Tarapur or Dahanu to produce fresh water. The processed water can be transported to Nashik through a pipeline and released into the Godavari river. The water would then flow downstream into the Jayakwadi dam, which caters to the parched region.
